Gonchan’s menu captures the warm and casual spirit of a traditional Japanese izakaya, offering a selection of comforting dishes that pair perfectly with a relaxed evening out. During my visit, the grilled skewers stood out, especially the Pork Skewer (豚串), Chicken Skewer (鳥串), and Chicken Skin Skewer (鳥皮), each delivering simple yet satisfying flavors. To complement the grilled items, I also enjoyed the Herring Pickles (にしん漬け), which added a refreshing and slightly tangy contrast to the meal. Meanwhile, the Fried Squid was crispy and flavorful, making it a great choice for sharing.

What makes the menu even more appealing is the variety of classic local favorites. The Grilled Shishamo (ししゃも焼き) offered a delicious smoky taste, while the Sujiko Rice Ball (すじこおにぎり) provided a rich and savory bite that felt distinctly Hokkaido. In addition, the Oden Assortment (おでん盛り合わせ) brought together several ingredients in a light, comforting broth, perfect for cooler days. To complete the experience, a fresh Draft Beer (生ビール) or Beer (ビール) paired wonderfully with the food. Overall, Gonchan’s menu is simple, authentic, and full of familiar Japanese flavors, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to enjoy a genuine local dining experience in Hakodate.
